General Board-wide

#1.1 Red Hat Forums is aimed at a general audience. This means our site is designed for 13 year olds and older. Everything must be aimed at this age and older. Explicit, vulgar language, drug talk, nudity, porn and so forth is not allowed.

#1.2 Do not mini-mod or "wanna-be-mod". We would like to encourage and thank members to use the report button but not add their own criticism.

#1.3 All publicly displayed messages are only limited to English unless the board is meant for the language to be otherwise. This includes posts, titles, signatures, profiles and other forms of public display.

Warning System

#2.1 Members who disobey the rules will be warned or banned depending on what the moderator believes is the appropriate punishment.

If you beleive the moderator issued an infraction unfairly, please contact an administrator. Talking back to the moderator who gave you the warning with no sense of respect may lead to further warnings.

If you do not know why you received a warning, an email or private message may have been sent to notify you of the reason why you were warned and who warned you.

Posting Etiquette (manners)

#3.01 Treat others positively and with respect. Flaming other members or other forums will lead to a warning, possibly even a ban.

#3.02 Topics must be submitted to the relevant forums. Please read the forum descriptions before posting.

#3.03 Topic titles should have an appropriate description.

Example

Good description: "Need Help installing Red Hat".

Bad description: "HEEEEELP!".

#3.04 It is forbidden to double post on the board. It means that you are not allowed to PURPOSELY post the same content twice in a row in any topic or board. If you have accidentaly double-posted, don't worry, just notify a Moderator or Administrator.

#3.05 Content of posts should not be explicit, offensive, shocking, or contain anything else someone may not want to see. This does not prohibit opposing opinions, just inappropriate content.

Disallowed: Drug related discussion, porn and anything else sick/cruel.

#3.06 No topic hijacking (going off topic).

#3.07 Posting serial numbers or license keys is not allowed.

#3.08 Depending on board rules, attaching files may be allowed as long as:
You either own the copyright to the file or the file is licenced under GPL or another licence that makes it redistributable or open-source.

#3.09 Excessively replying to your own topics to gain first page exposure ("reserving") posts in your thread is not allowed. It's not even needed; we have no characters-per-post limit!

#3.1 Selling or advertising any product or service not allowed here.

#3.22 Posting games hacks & cheats is not allowed.

Spam Rules

#4.1 If you choose to post a link it should benefit everyone and must not be a site of the following categories:

Warez sites or forums, sites that require subscription or a fee to access (it is ok to post these links if subscription or fees is optional, just not if it is required, sites that break any real-world laws, sites that contain or contain references and/or links to porn/drugs or anything shocking/disgusting, links within posts that links to a 3rd party in order to gain access to the content (eg. Link protectors such as TinyURL, Text files, etc.). To clarify, we only allow direct links to content.

#4.2 Excessive posting of similar or pointless messages to increase post count is not allowed.

Private Messaging

#5.1 All rules apply in regard to private messaging.

Avatars and Signatures

#6.1 All rules apply to avatars and signatures.

#6.2 The total maximum dimensions for all images/texts in a signature is 500px (width) by 200px (height) horizontally only.

#6.3 Signatures can only be 100KB or less in total file size.

Explicit Guidelines

#7.1 Sticky Requests: Please do not request a post to be stickied. If there is room to sticky an exceptional post, we will do so. Topics which use a poll to petition a sticky are not allowed.

#7.2 To have your username changed please PM a Moderator or Administrator.

#7.3 Asking any staff member if you can be a part of the staff will hinder your chance of ever becoming one.

#7.4 If you are having a problem, please contact only one staff member. Contacting more than one is both annoying, and can cause confusion that makes any problem you are having harder to solbe.

#7.4 All forum rules apply to each member's profile.

#7.5 All forum rules apply to every image posted in messages, signatures, avatars and PM's. Images must not contain URL's of sites against our rules (or any advertisement of another warez site, URL or not), words that bypass our word censor or any type of serial number.
